Once apples from Jumla entered the local market, the average price of apple has fallen to Rs 80 per kg from Rs 180 per kg, a month ago.
According to traders, consumers who had to pay an average of Rs 180 per kg for apples imported India and China, now get apples from Jumla for Rs 60 to Rs 80.
Meanwhile, the price of Chinese and Indian apples has slumped by Rs 80 per kg, to Rs 100 per kg. [break]
“Apples of Jumla have played havoc with apples from India and China,” said Rajan Parsad Dahal, a trader. However, traders added, since apples from Jumla are supplied to Kohalpur mainly from August to October, Indian and Chinese apples will dominate market for the rest of the year.
Bhupendra KC, a supplier, said the price of apples will again rise all through winter to July next year.
