APF honors its players

KATHMANDU, Oct 11: The Central Sports Committee of Armed Police Force (APF) honored 19 of its players with the APF Player of the Year 2069 award at its headquarters in Halchowk, Kathmandu on Thursday.



The best players from 19 different sports disciplines included in the APF Sports Club were awarded. Similarly, the medal winners of the Sixth National Games and the best coaches were also felicitated on the occasion.[break]



The players of the year and the gold medalists of the Sixth National Games were given away Rs 10,000 each while the best coaches were awarded with Rs 15,000 each along with certificates. Kosh Raj Onta, the IGP of APF, gave away the awards.



Arjun Prasad Dhakal and Pramila Rijal of athletics, Sarad Vesawkar and Sita Rana Magar of cricket, Ganesh Lawati and Anu Lama of football, Khusi Chaudhary and Nima Shrestha of volleyball, Purna Lama and Sanju Lama of boxing, Sunil Lama and Ganga Devi Adhikari of karate, Tamang siblings Ratnajit and Nangsal Devi of badminton, Sujan Shrestha and Sangita Basyal of taekwondo were declared the best male and female players in their respective sports discplines.







Deepak Bohara of handball, Tej Bahadur Palli of wushu and Govinda Khatri of ITF taekwondo were also given the best player award. Similarly, athletics coach Sushil Narsingh Rana of athletics was given the best coach award.



Sabita Chaudhary who set a new record in women´s 100 m and 400 m hurdles in the Sixth National Games, London Olympics participant Pramila Rijal, South Asian Games karate gold medalist Sunil Lama and Ganga Devi Adhikari were given special awards. They received Rs 10,000 each.



The runner-up team of SAFF Women´s Football Championship bagged Rs 45,000. Meanwhile, APF also felicitated women footballer Jamuna Gurung, Kailash Dutta Bhatta of volleyball, and Durja Kumar Rai of APF.



Coaches Janak Singh Tharu of football, Kapil Kishor Shrestha of volleyball, Raju Basnet of cricket, Kiran Thapa of boxing, Deepak Shrestha of karate, Tonil Prasad Karmacharya of taekwondo, Sudip Yonjan of badminton, among others, were also felicitated.



The APF team had finished third in the Sixth National Games held in the Far Western Region in February winning 40 gold, 41 silver and 47 bronze medals. Cash prizes worth Rs 1.3 million were distributed to the players.
