African United reaches final

BIRATNAGAR, April 5: African United avenged its 3-0 defeat last week to Mega Three Star Club in the Budhasubba Gold Cup in Dharan with a sudden death victory over Three Star in the semifinal of Rum Pum Birat Gold Cup football tournament in Biratnagar on Thursday.



African United will lock horns with Yeti Himalayan Sherpa Club in the final on Saturday. [break]



Though both the teams played an attacking game, both the regulation time and extra time failed to produce any goals.



The tie-breaker also could not decide the winner as it ended 4-4. Noha Brice´s spot kick was saved by Three Star goalie Kiran Chemjong and African United goalkeeper Bashir saved the shot of Bijay Dhimal of Three Star.







In sudden death, Bikram Lama of Three Star shot the ball wide while Kiran Chemjong denied Lucky of African United. Ravi Thapa of Three Star also shot wide but Frederic of African United scored to send his team into the final.



Both the teams missed several scoring opportunities during the regulation time.



African United´s captain Eze Collins sustained injury in the eighth minute of the match and was rushed to Nobel Medical College (NMC). According to Dr Ajay Das at NMC, Collins has been referred to Kathmandu for further treatment.
