Adhikari lifted 155kg in clean and jerk in the 69 kg weight category to better his own record of 154 kg. Adhikari had set the previous record during the Beijing Olympics in 2008. [break]
The internal selection was conducted among three players, who are currently in a closed camp for the 12th South Asian Games. Adhikari clinched the first position ahead of his two opponents.
Adhikari lifted 154 kg in snatch. Adhikari is the only weightlifter from Nepal to win gold medal in the South Asian Games.
Gopal Shrestha had lifted 105 kg in snatch and 140 kg in clean and jerk in the over-105 kg weight category. Bikash Thapa in 62 kg weight category lifted 110 kg in clean and jerk and 100 kg in snatch.
Nepal´s participation in the championship has not yet been confirmed but the association has selected Adhikari from the internal selection.
General Secretary of Nepal Weightlifting Asociation, Partha Sarathi Sen Gupta said that despite Adhikari´s selection for the championship, Nepal´s participation has not been confirmed yet. "Due to financial reasons we are not sure about participating in the championship. If we participate, Adhikari will represent Nepal in the championship."
Gupta further said that the world championship is the final selection for the 2012 London Olympics. Adhikari had participated in the Beijing Olympics through wild card.
