Kathmandu, Police bag two golds each
KATHMANDU, Sept 13: Kathmandu district and Nepal Police Club won two gold medals each in the 12th National Judo Championship that kicked off in the capital on Friday. Armed Police Force (APF), Lalitpur and Kailali also bagged one gold medal each during the event held at Multipurpose Martial Arts Center, Naya Bazaar.
Saroj Maharjan of Kathmandu clinched gold in the men´s 60 kg section beating Sunil Nagarkoti of Rasuwa.
Manisha Maharjan overcame Nirmala Kunwar of Banke in women´s U-44 kg to win another gold for Kathmandu.
Similarly, Prakash Nepali and Sri Ram Makaju earned gold medals for Police. Nepali ousted Mohan Sunuwar of Kathmandu in the final of men´s U-73 kg, while Makaju beat Sanjay Maharjan of Kathmandu to take gold in men´s 90 kg.
Devika Khadka of APF won gold in the women´s U-52 kg section beating Rakku Thapa Magar of Kavre in the final. In women´s U-63 kg, Ranju Rai of Lalitpur beat Pramila Khadka of Police for gold.
Ganga Chaudhary of Kanchapur secured gold in the women´s above-70 kg category. She defeated Sunita Bohara of Kanchanpur in the final.
Earlier, Minister for Youth and Sports Ram Kumar Shrestha inaugurated the three-day event organized by Nepal Judo Association. Altogether 156 players from 17 districts are competing in the event.
Inter-school football begins
KATHMANDU: Inter-school Football Tournament organized by Kathmandu District Committee of Nepal School Football Association began on Friday at the Sano Gaucharan ground, Kathmandu.
Himalayan Academy beat Chhahari School 5-1 in the inaugural match of the district-level football tournament. Satish Adhikari scored a brace for Himalayan and Sandip Adhikari, Abhishek Karki and Anuj Niraula added a goal each. Ealier, Jula Adhikari had given the lead to Chhahari. In another match, Wilts Academy edged past Sagarmatha Vidya Mandir 5-4 in tie-breaker. Similarly, Sunshine defeated The Elite´s Co-Ed 1-0 and Lumbini Academy beat Little Bud 4-3 in tie-breaker.
