Thapa Magar was slapped a jail sentence of 20 years on the charge of spying against Afghani interest on behalf of Pakistan´s intelligence service.
Saying that the government performed the role of a parent in his release, he urged the government to work for the rescue of other Nepalis workers at risk abroad. Thapa Magar had arrived home a week ago by passing just 27 months in jail after getting amnesty from Afghani President Hamid Karzai. Organizing a news conference in the capital Thursday, he also thanked all those who contributed to his release.
On the occasion, he said, "Nepali migrant workers are languishing in prisons in different countries on different charges. Most of them are facing physical and mental torture due to lack of understanding on languages and cultures of the concerned nations. The government should take efforts for their rescue like for me."
