KATHMANDU, March 23: A meeting of the constitutional council (CC) forwarded the same names it recommended earlier for the post of commissioners of the Election Commission to President Ram Baran Yadav.
According to press advisor Rajendra Prasad Pandey of Chairman of interim election government Khilraj Regmi, the meeting of the council at Singhadurbar took the decision to this effect today evening. [break]
The president yesterday sought an explanation from the CC on its recommendation to reappoint commissioners of the EC.
The state head asked CC to present explanation on how reappointments of commissioners to the same post will not violate Article 128 (7) of the Interim Constitution.
The CC had recommended Nil Kantha Uprety as the chief commissioner while Ila Sharma, Dolakh Bahadur Gurung, Ayodhi Prasad Yadav and Dr Rambhakta PB Thakur as commissioners.
Uprety, Yadav and Gurung are retired commissioners of the EC.
