KATHMANDU, May 23: Deputy Prime Minister and Sports Minister Ishwar Pokharel has urged the National Sports Council (NSC) to expedite works for establishing the National Sports Academy (NSA) in Hetauda.

Taking charge of the Ministry of Youth and Sports on Wednesday, Pokharel said establishment of NSA would be an important achievement for Nepali sports.[break]

The government had started the NSA project three years ago when NSC was led by CPN-UML leader Jeewan Ram Sherstha. Then Prime Minister and CPN-UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal had laid the foundation stone for the NSA project.

However, the NSA project was left in the lurch after Shrestha left NSC.

Meanwhile, Pokharel asked NSC and Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) to settle all the disputes between them. "Sports authorities should follow rules and avoid political interference," said Pokharel. "I´ll help the sports sector and authorities as long as I´m in charge of the ministry," he added.
