A pioneer for introducing Gypsy Jazz in Nepal in 2000, Hari Maharjan has been dedicated in the field of music as a guitarist for more than two decades now. Gypsy jazz, which he introduced in Nepal, is a style of jazz music believed to have been started around Paris in the 1930s.

Music bands always tend to have fun anecdotes about their origin. In hindsight, it’s always amusing to hear how they unwittingly started a musical legacy and, the percussionist of Kutumba, Pavit Maharjan doesn’t disappoint either. He fondly recalls the day how Nepal’s famous folk instrumental ensemble was basically a couple of friends who opened a “chiya khane office.”

KATHMANDU, Aug 25: Nepali folk singer and musician Khem Raj Gurung, who was best known for his hit song "Wari Jamuna Pari Jamuna," died on Thursday at Medicare National Hospital and Research Centre, Chabahil. He was 42.
