Difficulty for operation of remittance companies there blamed KATHMANDU, June 11: With remittance companies finding it difficult to expand their operation, Nepali living in the countries like Hong Kong, South Korea, Australia and Israel are using Hundi system to send their hard-earned money back home. According to stakeholders, the difficult process for remittance companies to expand presence in these countries where a large number of Nepali are currently living and working to start their operation is helping to flourish informal remitting system like Hundi.  Lack of domestic companies in the destination countries, particularly South Korea and Israel, leaves Nepalis there with no option but to use Hundi system.

KATHMANDU, June 10: Nepal India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NICCI) have highlighted the need to implement the India-offered Leave Travel Concession (LTC) scheme to boost and promote bilateral tourism.  Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu on Thursday, NICCI officials said that though the Indian government has approved a proposal to allow more than two million government employees to travel to Nepal along with Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka on LTC, the scheme has not been executed properly by both the governments.

KATHMANDU, June 11: Salt Trading Corporation (STC) has got the go-ahead to import 30,000 tons of sugar. Officials of STC say sugar will start arriving into Nepal from mid-July. The government has set customs duty at 1 percent for import of 30,000 tons, down from the existing 15 percent.

KATHMANDU, June 10: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index climbed up 83.56 points this week to close at record high of 1,566.7 points on Thursday--the last trading day of the week.  While the stock market had taken a dip on the first trading day by nearly 35 points, the market rallied in the remaining trading days of the week.

WEEKLY MARKET COMMENTARY (June 5-10)  KATHMANDU, June 10: Nepali rupee gained 96 paisa against US dollar this week as the Indian currency, with which rupee is pegged, gained value against the greenback. Gold price, on the other hand, went up by Rs 515 per 10 grams over the week.  CURRENCY Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central regulatory bank, had opened currency trading on Sunday with value of dollar fixed at Rs 108.07.
