KATHMANDU, Aug 12: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has said that the increased presence of young people in Parliament is historic, but simply bringing young leaders to power will not automatically fulfil people’s aspirations.
Addressing an event on Wednesday, Lamichhane said the responsibility of the younger generation would become even greater once it assumes leadership.
Citing examples of young leaders in several countries taking charge of their governments at the age of 35 or 36, he said the significant representation of young people in Nepal’s Parliament was a rare and historic opportunity.
“We trust journalist Rabi Lamichhane but not Home Minister Rabi...
“Having such a large number of young people in any country’s parliament is a major historic political development. We have now begun experiencing that in practice,” he said.
Lamichhane also said the younger generation should reflect on whether it has failed to give due respect to experienced leaders simply because of their age. He said young leaders could no longer shift blame onto others for the country’s problems.
“It was easier yesterday to say that older people ran the country and young people never got the opportunity. But whom do we blame now? We cannot insult or disregard anyone anymore,” he said.
Arguing that dreams would not be fulfilled simply because young people had assumed leadership, Lamichhane said it was now time for the younger generation to demonstrate its ability through responsible action.
“Young leadership coming to power does not mean that dreams will automatically be fulfilled. There is a lot of work to be done and many responsibilities that follow,” he said.
