Whereabouts of seventeen-year-old Roshan Gurung from Kerabari in Kabilash VDC-5 is still unknown though the search continues, police said. Roshan is the seventh youth gone missing in the river this monsoon in the district. On June 15, the same river had swept away five children at Kurintar. [break]
At around 3 PM on Monday afternoon, Roshan and his friends - Sudeep Gurung and Ishwor Gurung - had dived into the river hoping to catch the astray boat and row it to one of the river banks.
Within seconds, they were struggling for their lives. “Even though Roshan could swim, his skill was no match against the current and eventually he was swept away,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Arun Poudel, adding that Sudip and Ishowr somehow managed to swim against the torrent to the other bank.
The search for Roshan as well as those missing from Kurintar was still on, DSP Adhikari added circumspectly. Of the five children who were swept away by the river at Kurintar, the police were able to recover the bodies of two of them five days later.
Likewise, a 20-year-old boy from Meghauli VDC of Chitwan is still missing after he got swept away by Trishuli earlier this monsoon.
Two more youths from the neighboring district of Nawalparasi are also still missing in the same river.
