KATHMANDU, July 28: Trishuli river has swept away a 19-kg magnetic device used to trace missing buses, which fell into Trishuli river after being swept away by landslide at Simaltal, Chitwan, some three weeks ago. 

Search for the missing buses was carried out on Wednesday, using two magnetic devices brought from India after the condition of the buses and passengers remained unknown even after Nepal-India Joint security Force continued the search operation. 

According to the Armed Police Force (APF)- Nepal, a 19-kg magnetic device was swept away by the Trishuli river on Saturday in the course of searching the missing buses. 

Information Officer at the APF-Nepal Disaster Management Training School, Kurintar, Janak Puri shared that two magnetic devices—one of 14 kg and another of 19 kg were used to locate the buses and search for the missing buses and magnetic device is currently underway. 

A 12-member technical team from the National Disaster Response team of India comprising APF Nepal has been carrying out the search from July 21. 

Two buses—one heading towards Kathmandu from Birgunj and another heading towards Gaur from Kathmandu fell into Trishuli river after being swept away by landslide at Simaltal. Of 65 passengers in two buses, three, however, were able to save their lives while 62 went missing. 

Of the total 62 passengers, bodies of 24 were recovered from different places and the condition of remaining 38 passengers and two buses is still unknown.
