SURKHET, March 1: Normal life in Surkhet remained crippled on Monday due to an indefinite banda called by the Maoist-affiliated Young Communist League (YCL) against the killing of an YCL cadre.

Vehicles bound for both long and short routes remained off the roads and markets, factories, industries and academic institutions were closed down.

The banda callers have demanded action against the killers, immediate compensation to the victim´s family and declaration of the deceased as a martyr.

The YCL has accused the Youth Force, the youth wing of the CPN-UML, of involvement in the killing. YCL cadre Asharam BK was killed in the incident on Saturday night. The Youth Force has denied involvement in the incident.

Twenty-two-year-old BK was killed in a clash that ensued between the YCL cadres and employees of mid-western transport entrepreneurs´ association following a dispute over the employees´ appointment.

He was attacked with a khukuri. Police said a search for the persons involved in the killing is on.
