KATHMANDU, May 23: Advocates Ananta Luintel, Pratibha Upreti, and Bishal Thapa filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court (SC) on Friday, questioning the qualifications of newly appointed Governor Dr Bishwa Nath Paudel.

The writ petition alleges that the Governor Recommendation Committee predetermined Dr Paudel's candidacy in a "match-fixing style" process before formally recommending him.

The SC administration said it is reviewing the writ and will decide whether to register it after completing the necessary procedures.

The writ petition challenges Governor Paudel's qualifications despite his studies in natural resource economics, labor economics, the history of economics, and his PhD in agricultural economics. It argues that his appointment, made after he resigned from the recommendation committee, undermines good governance and raises doubts about his suitability. The writ demands that authorities cancel his appointment.
