Writ petition filed against designated prohibited zones

KATHMANDU, July 5: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court seeking annulment of the government’s decision to designate prohibited zones.


Senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi on Friday filed a writ petition seeking scrapping of the government’s decision that designated various places including Maitighar Mandala and Shanti Batika as prohibited zones in the capital, putting  a ban on demonstrations and protests.

The SC will hear the case on coming Friday.


Kathmandu District Administration Office has designated seperate seven places for demonstrations while declaring Maitighar Mandala as a prohibited zone in the Kathmandu Valley as part of Home Administration Reforms Project.


Respective District Administration Offices have specified spots for demonstrations and protests in all the 77 districts under the direction of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
