Petition  filed at SC against KMC’s decision not to collect garbage from Singha Durbar

KATHMANDU, April 18: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) demanding the removal of solid waste from Singha Durbar, the Office of the President Office and the Prime Minister's residence.

KATHMANDU, April 18: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) demanding the removal of solid waste from Singha Durbar, the Office of the President Office and the Prime Minister's residence.


Advocate Padam Bahadur Shrestha filed the petition naming Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Balendra Shah and the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers as the defendants. The petition also calls for an interim order, arguing that the piling up of garbage could lead to the spread of diseases.

The hearing on the writ petition filed against Mayor Shah will take place today at the SC. Since KMC has the responsibility of collecting waste within its jurisdiction, the petitioner has demanded KMC start collecting the waste immediately and take it to the landfill site and to collect and dispose of the waste regularly.
