All the laborers working in Kaski district are paid a minimum salary of Rs 4600 a month, fixed by the government. Citing rising cost of living, the laborers at the Pokhara Foods, however, launched the strike Tuesday demanding their salaries be doubled.
On Wednesday, they withdrew the strike after the management agreed to pay them Rs 1,500 in additional allowance.
The workers, however, rejecting the agreement between employers and agitating trade union officials reached Wednesday, resumed their strike on Thursday reverting to their original demand.
The laborers are demanding that the management pay them allowance from backdate starting from mid-July instead of mid-December as mentioned in the agreement signed on Wednesday.
They have also asked the management, instead of considering the whole sum of Rs 1500 as allowance, to adjust Rs 1000 into basic salary and Rs 500 as allowance.
"The agreement signed on Wednesday was a mistake. We do not bother about what other trade unions say," said Ratna Bahadur Karki, one of the workers at Pokhara Foods.
