KATHMANDU, April 29: As the night crept in, she wanted to drink a cup of warm water. She hurriedly rushed to the kitchen of her two storied mud house and held a bowl which is typically used to drink home made wine in Newari culture.

The bowl filled with water, suddenly wobbled and fell down on the floor. Dhana Maya Shrestha, 51, again tried to pour some water from a kettle but the bowl slipped from her hands. By the time she realized that it was an earthquake, the walls of her kitchen had already collapsed.

"By the time I felt the tremors, the walls had already collapsed and I couldn't breathe. When I attempted to go to the ground floor, the ladder also broke down into pieces," she narrated.

However, she managed to hold the wooden beam and started praying for life. But the roof of her house fell on her body and she was completely buried under the rubble, except her left eye.

She could just see the debris of the house from her left eye, whole body buried under the debris. Shrestha had no option other than screaming for help.

"I kept on shouting for help," she said in tearful voice, "However, no one could hear me for around 50 minutes."

She said she had lost hope but she relentlessly tried to drag someone's attention. Fortunately her relatives and neighbors heard her voice.

"As soon as we heard the voice we rushed into the house and looked for Dhana Maya,' informed Shree Krishna Shrestha, a resident of Gokarna.

He even informed that they mistakenly stepped on her head as she was heavily buried under the debris but was able to take her out and rush her to the hospital.

"Even we could hear her voice urging for help, it took us almost half an hour to locate and rescue her,' Shree Krishna informed.

Dhana Maya, a resident of Gokarneshwor, had woken up after a short nap on Saturday morning after having her lunch.

Her tearful eyes reflected her courage to brave the earthquake alone.

She has sustained major injuries to her face and minor injuries to different parts of her body. She looked extremely terrified as she narrated her tale of horror to this correspondent. Every drop of tear, rolling down her cheeks, glistened with happiness.

"I cannot explain the feeling of having survived such a deadly earthquake. God wanted me to survive," she concluded.
