Chandra Devi was taken under control by the police for investigation just a day after Guru Sharan´s murder two weeks ago. Although she initially denied her involvement in Guru Sharan´s murder, Chandra Devi, when prodded by the police, revealed how and why she plotted her husband´s murder. On Wednesday, the Siraha police told a press conference that Chandra Devi was the chief conspirator in Guru Sharan´s murder.
The shocking revelation about Chandra Devi´s plotting of her own husband´s murder comes just two months after the police revealed that former lawmaker Sadrul Miyan Haque´s murder was plotted by his own wife and daughter in Saptari district.
According to Siraha police chief SP Purna Chandra Joshi, Chandra Devi had already paid Rs 25,000 in advance to the contract killers. Yadav, Chandra Devi´s lover, had helped her get in contact with the contract killers.
According to the police, Chandra Devi was married to Guru Sharan 15 years ago as his second wife. Soon after marrying Guru Sharan, she had an extra-marital affair with Yadav. As Yadav was living in Guru Sharan´s house, it became easy for Chandra Devi to meet Yadav.
Later, after getting hints of her wife´s illicit affair, Guru Sharan moved to Mirchaiya, leaving his house in Madar. But, Chandra Devi kept meeting Yadav. Chandra Devi told the police that she decided to kill Guru Sharan to clear all the hurdles in her way to be with Yadav.
Yadav and Chandra Devi collectively made a plan to kill Guru Sharan. As per the plan, they hired three contract killers. Yadav went abroad just 20 days before Guru Sharan´s murder to avoid any speculation about their involvement in the incident.
On the night the contract killers were to kill Guru Sharan, Chandra Devi, with her daughters, slept on top of her house. When the contract killers arrived outside, she surreptitiously unlatched the door allowing them to kill Guru Sharan. She latched the door again when the killers left the house. Later, she called her neighbors that her house was robbed of by the dacoits. But, the police had suspected her on the very first day of the murder. As she kept changing her statement, the police´s suspicion only grew stronger.
"As Chandra Devi has already admitted to her and her lover´s involvement in the murder, we are trying to get Yadav back from abroad," said SP Joshi. "We will seek the Interpol´s help in bringing Yadav back."
