KATHMANDU, Aug 21: As many as 838 new cases of coronavirus were detected in various parts of the country in the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).
Of the newly infected, 546 are males and 292 are females. "After the confirmation of 838 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, Nepal's coronavirus tally has reached 30,483," spokesperson for the MoHP, Jageshwar Gautam, said at a virtual media briefing on Friday.

Kathmandu Valley alone witnessed 182 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, he said.
Spokesperson Gautam said that 250 COVID-19 patients were discharged after recovery from various isolation centers in the past 24 hours.
"With this, a total of 18,214 persons who earlier had tested positive for the virus have been discharged after recovery as of today," he said.
According to him, 13,579 persons underwent PCR tests in the past 24 hours in various labs across the country.
Meanwhile, the country's coronavirus death toll reached 137 on Friday afternoon with 11 people from various parts of the country dying of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.
