With 743 new cases of coronavirus in past 24 hours, Nepal's COVID-19 tally reaches 32,678

KATHMANDU, Aug 24: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) reported 743 new cases of coronavirus on Monday afternoon, taking the country's coronavirus tally to 32,678.

During a virtual media briefing on Monday, spokesperson for the MoHP, Jageshwar Gautam said that 743 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the past 24 hours through 10,234 PCR tests conducted at various labs across the country.  Of the newly-infected, 497 are males and 246 are females.

According to Spokesperson Gautam, 175 COVID-19 patients were discharged after recovery in the past 24 hours from various isolation centers and health institutions.

"As of today, 18,806 persons who earlier tested positive for the viral disease have returned home after recovery. The recovery rate is 58% of the total coronavirus infections," Gautam said.

The Kathmandu Valley alone reported 224 cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, eight persons died of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the country's COVID-19 death toll to 157, according to Spokesperson Gautam.

There are currently 13,715 active cases of coronavirus in various parts of the country, he said.
