KATHMANDU, May 1: As a result of an indefinite strike called by the Tharuhat Struggle Committee in the Tarai region, the UN World Food Program (WFP) has been unable to deliver critical humanitarian assistance in a timely manner, the WFP said in a statement.

The organization along with its suppliers are facing severe delays and have not been able to efficiently distribute some 3,000 megaton of food.

In the past 10 days, food deliveries have not been able to reach more than 325,000 highly food insecure Nepalis, including Koshi flood victims and the Bhutanese refugees, the statement says.

Furthermore, the lack of rainfall during the winter crop season and prevailing drought in Mid-and-Far Western Nepal have resulted in pervasive food insecurity for more than 2 million people posing additional risks to these vulnerable populations.
