KATHMANDU, August 14: The Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) says the monsoon trough is currently positioned around the Tarai region and slightly south of the Terai in the east, setting the stage for more intense monsoon activity in the west compared to eastern Nepal.

This afternoon, skies are expected to stay generally cloudy over the hilly areas of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, while the rest of the country will see partly cloudy conditions. Moderate rainfall is possible in parts of the hilly and Terai regions of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim, as well as in some areas of Madhesh Province.

Tonight, the hilly regions will remain generally cloudy, with partly cloudy skies elsewhere. Moderate rain is likely in some parts of the hilly and Terai areas of Gandaki Province, along with the hilly belts of Bagmati, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces.

The MFD has warned of potential landslides and debris flows in the hilly regions, a rise in river and stream levels, and possible disruptions to transportation. Authorities have urged the public to stay alert and prepare for weather-related hazards.
