KATHMANDU, August 28: Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) has said that the encroachers will not be allowed to continue violating the laws.
In a statement on Sunday Mayor Balen said, “Unauthorized construction work done by encroaching public or government land and using ground floor or basement as shops when its purpose is specified for parking during the design approval process is automatically illegal.”
Mayor Balen has vowed to take action against those violating the existing laws. Stating that the metropolis has used its inherent executive powers to remove unauthorized structures recently, he said that Section 11(2) of the Local Government Operation Act, 2074 has given the right to mobilize the Metropolitan Police Force for the purpose of preventing and controlling unauthorized construction and encroachment of public property.
Mayor Balen also said that it is the first responsibility of the metropolis to immediately prevent and control any unauthorized construction work or any work that violates the law.
