KATHMANDU, April 20: The Ministry of Urban Development has decided not to add a budget in the policy and programs for the construction of viewtowers and assembly halls in the new budget.

Urban Development Minister Ram Kumari Jhakri said that the construction of the viewtower and meeting hall would not be continued in next year's policy and programs. She said that there would be no budget for next year's policy program for the construction of the viewtower and meeting hall as there is no standard of operation and that such construction works only create unlimited liability to the government.

"In the coming fiscal year, we will be moving away from the policy and program of building view towers and meeting halls. These structures, which create unlimited responsibility for the state, have no meaning in public life. Another thing is that there is no modality of its operation,” she said.

Minister Jhankri, however, said that the construction of 32 assembly halls being constructed by the ministry earlier will be completed with priority.

On the occasion, Minister Jhankri also announced that the government will replace the integrated settlement development programme with a new programme for the settlement development.  "The integrated settlement development programme has become ineffective in hilly and mountainous areas. And in the case of the Kathmandu Valley and the Terai, acquiring necessary land is the main issue for its implementation,” she said.

Minister Jhakri said that the program is being transformed into a slum development and joint housing program in the policy and program of the coming year. She said that the work could not be started in Santhal Basti in Morang even after there was a tender and a foundation stone was laid down as the previous government had brought the program without any plan.
