VP's aide says he is innocent

KATHMANDU, Sept 19: The Personal Secretariat of the Vice-President has issued a statement Sunday denying any relation and involvement whatsoever in the Madheshbani national weekly and the notice on army recruitment that was published in the weekly on September 17.



Serious attention has been drawn by the publication and dissemination of news report also linking the name of the Vice-President in the scam, the Secretariat has said.[break]



Meanwhile, the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) has also said that its attention was drawn towards the arrest of editor of madhesbani weekly, Rajesh Ahiraj on the charge of aiding armed groups in the Tarai, and has added that a person should not be immune to arrest or investigation in the name of a journalist if found involved in any act banned by the state.



However, the Federation is against unnecessary harassment of the accused persons in the name of investigation.



The Federation today has also condemned the mistreatment and manhandling of editor-in-chief of local Crime Express of Rautahat, Biswanath Raya by a group taking over a news report.



Mr Raya is the Secretary of the Federation´s Rautahat Unit.
