KATHMANDU, Sept 28: The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) on Monday nominated four vice presidents after sacking three dissident vice presidents and filling the vacant position of late Lalit Krishna Shrestha, who was a senior vice president.

Disclosing the decisions of ANFA executive committee at its office in Satdobato, Monday, ANFA General Secretary Dhirendra Pradhan read the decision stating that Narendra Shrestha was nominated senior vice president in the vacant position of late Lalit Krishna Shrestha, who was electrocuted at his house on June 12.Newly-appointed senior vice president Shrestha, who was also the vice president on previous committee, was not an elected member of the ANFA executive committee.

Similarly, the meeting also decided to sack dissident vice presidents Karma Tshering Sherpa, Bijay Narayan Manandhar, and Kirshor Rai as well as member Pankaj Bikram Nembang until the next general assembly.

"The meeting of the executive committee decided to sack three vice presidents and a member after they failed to submit satisfactory explanations regarding why they did not attend three executive committee meetings in a row without prior notice," said Narendra Shrestha, the newly-appointed senior vice president. He further said, "They have been sacked only until the next general assembly of the association which is yet to be finalized."

The three sacked vice presidents and member have been at loggerheads with the ANFA establishment, especially its President Ganesh Thapa, nearly since a year. They have been protesting against the 'autocratic' rule of President Thapa and have also field complaint against him at various bodies including the Public Accounts Committee of the legislature-parliament, charging him of corruption. On the basis of the complaint, the PAC had also launched investigation on Thapa and forwarded the case to the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority. However, Thapa managed to get a clean chit from the anti-graft body.

Similarly, on the basis of the complaint filed by dissident faction at the Patan Appellate Court, the ANFA was forced to call of its general assembly, scheduled for September 2.

Senior vice president Shrestha added that all three vice presidents and the member could be re-appointed if they get clean chit from the general assembly.

Meanwhile, Deputy General Secretary duo Mani Kunwar and Bir Bahadur Khadka and Eastern Region President Sanotsh Baniya were nominated vice presidents in place of the three sacked vice presidents until the next general assembly. Similarly, Three Star Club Acting President Arun Man Joshi has been nominated as executive committee member.

Likewise, Diwakar Ghale, president of Mahabir Club, and Sanjib Prasad Mishra, the ANFA development director, were nominated as the deputy general secretaries. Jhapa FA President Jal Kumar Gurung was named president of the Eastern Region of the football governing body.

Similarly, the meeting also decided to form a five-member committee under Sunil Sumsher Rana, the honorary vice president of the association, with the view to manage national team smoothly. Ramesh Rayamajhi, Diwaker Ghale, Madhusudhan Upadhyay and Bimala Paudel are the other members of the committee.

A decision to form ANFA Academy management committee under the leadership of Assistant Treasurer Rabindra Joshi with other members Dinesh Byanjankar and Rajendra Neupane was also taken during the meeting.

The ANFA executive committee meeting further decided to honor the national women's team (players and coaches) with Rs 50,000 each for finishing runner-up in the SAFF Women's Championship held in Pakistan last year. The other decisions include felicitating players and coaches of the boys' and girls' U-14 teams with Rs 10,000. The boys' team had participated in the AFC U-14 Boys' Regional Festival of Football held in Tajikistan and the girls' team had participated in the AFC U-14 Girls' Regional Championship held in Kathmandu earlier this year.
