On our Facebook page, Rupak Sunuwar states, “Education is important and educating children, or even old people, is good anywhere. It doesn’t matter whether it is in the Valley or away from it. It would be a great experience to stay somewhere else and share knowledge.”[break]
A student of community development, Samikshya Bashishtha, says, “I’m prepared to work out of town. I’ll have to participate in community development activities and start work from the grass root level. That means I need to participate and volunteer in activities outside my city. I will, especially, have to work in rural parts of our country where literacy rate is still low due to lack of schools and teaching staff.”
The majority of young people have different reasons but affirmative answers.

Ayush Dhungel, also on our Facebook page, says, “Yes, I would. It’s the best way to spend one’s free time in the most constructive way. I would also be contributing to my nation, at the same time. I believe that youth volunteerism is important for a developing country like Nepal.”
Tsuyog Pradhan, too, has a positive reply. He says, “I love to travel and I’ve always had a wish to see illiteracy eradicated from Nepal. So, if I’m given a chance to do so, I’d be grateful.”
Nirazan Khatiwada states it simply. “Yes, I would definitely go and volunteer and teach outside my city. This will make me feel good about myself,” he says.
Whatever our reasons may be, perhaps we should act on them now.
