KATHMANDU, Nov 27: Vitamin 'A' is being administered to over 2.71 million children aged between six months to 59 months throughout the country Thursday and Friday.

The Vitamin 'A' should have been fed to those children on October 18 and 19 but was put off due to the festival of Dashain. It has been launched after one month as the festive season is over, said Kalpana Pandey, Public Health Officer at the Department of Health Services, Women Welfare Division, Nutrition Section.

The program of feeding Vitamin 'A' to children was earlier scheduled for May, but was rescheduled for July 6 and 7 due to risk of coronavirus pandemic. Young children across the country are being administered with Vitamin A on Thursday and Friday as the task could not be accomplished in the date scheduled again due to COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent government measures to contain the spread of the virus.

The women health volunteers have been mobilized in all the wards of the 753 local units of the country for administering Vitamin 'A'. Children are also fed de-worming tablets along with Vitamin 'A' to the children as part of the National Vitamin 'A' campaign.
