SOLUKHUMBHU, Aug 21: A 90-year-old man here has defied his age and taken the trouble to have his village illuminated.

Raiman Rai of Salyan village in the district decided to go it alone and formed a consumers committee for the construction of a micro hydroelectricity project in his village after nobody came forward to take up the task.[break]

Rai oversaw the construction of the project himself and collected funds from every household and also convinced people to offer their voluntary labour for the project. Ultimately, the project was completed at a cost of approximately Rs 900,000.

The 24 households in Salyan VDC-1 can now enjoy uninterrupted power supply at their homes, thanks to this 90-yer-old man with a zeal to do something for his village.
