KATHMANDU, Dec 10: Madan Bhandari Sports Academy is organizing 9-A-Side Veteran Football Tournament from December 31 to January 6 at its Academy ground in Matatirtha, Kathmandu. 



Organizing a press conference in the capital on Friday, Academy President Binod Shrestha informed that the tournament in being organized to mark the eighth anniversary of the Academy which falls on January 1.

“The tournament is in line with our policy to celebrate the anniversary for whole month by organizing various programs,” he said, recalling that the Academy had organized at least one tournament in each month last year. 


“We are organizing this tournament in honor of the veteran footballers who had big contribution toward football during their playing career,” he said. “Our ultimate goal is to achieve financial progress through sports.”


Member of the Academy Subha Sharma informed that they are expecting participation of 16 teams in the tournament to be played in knockout format. Only players above 40 years will be eligible to participate in the tournament.  


The winner and the runner-up teams will walk home with purse of Rs 100,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively. Similarly, the man-of-the-match of each game and best player of the tournament will also be rewarded. The expected cost of the event is Rs 1.3 million.
