Uttarakhand disaster: Search continues to trace whereabouts of missing 16 Nepali nationals

KATHMANDU, Aug 5: The Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi has said that a search continued for those Nepali went missing in a landslide that occurred in Uttarakhand of India on August 3.

A total of 16 Nepali including seven of the same family from Jumla, four others from the district and five from Kalikot have reportedly been missing in the landslide, according to the nearby Nepali community there. 

Though local media and the local government officials said the search operations for the missing are currently underway, the Embassy said increased level of waters in a river there and adverse weather hampered the operations.

Among the dead, one has been identified as Tek Bahadur Kami of Kalikot while identity of another, who is also a Nepali national, is yet to be ascertained.

The Ministry of External Affairs of India and the Rudraprayag chief district officer have been urged to cooperate to intensify the rescue and relief efforts and to send the mortal remains to Nepal.
