The five-year Assistance Agreement was signed in 2009 and various programs contribute to the peace process to strengthen democratic institutions and processes; improving governance and rule of law; provide training and education for youth employment; supporting early childhood education; combatting trafficking in persons; the provision of sustainable, accessible, and quality basic health services; enhancing competitiveness in targeted economic sub-sectors and the promotion of inclusive economic growth, according to USAID.

Lal Shanker Ghimire, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, and David C. Atteberry, Mission Director of USAID/Nepal, signed the agreement on behalf of the two governments.
