KATHMANDU, May 12: Nepal has been selected as one of 20 focus countries for US President Barack Obama´s US$3.5 billion Feed the Future Initiative, a comprehensive country-owned and agriculture-led approach aimed at reducing hunger and poverty in the developing world.

USAID Mission Director Dr Kevin Rushing on Wednesday met with Agriculture Secretary Nathu Prasad Chaudhary and Dr Jagadish Chandra Pokharel, the vice chairman of the National Planning Commission, to inform them of the US decision, a statement from the US Embassy said.

The US government has named food security as a major global priority.

Partners in Nepal will include a variety of actors from national and local government agencies, civil society organizations, and the private sector, read the statement.
