US envoy meets chairman Khanal

KATHMANDU, Aug 19: US Ambassador to Nepal Peter W. Bodde called on Chairman of the CPN-UML, Jhala Nath Khanal, at the latter´s residence on Monday.



During the discussion on the upcoming Constituent Assembly election, Chairman Khanal made it clear that the election would be held on the stipulated date- November 19. He hoped that for the interest of the agenda being carried by CPN-Maoists themselves, it would be wise of them to participate in the CA election. [break]



Similarly Chairman Khanal said the recent agreement with the Madhesi Morcha led by Upendra Yadav added a step to create environment for election. Increase in proportional representation seats for the coming CA election has assured better representation of women, dalit and other minorities, he added.



He assured Ambassador Bodde that UML would do its best from its side to maintain peace during election and work for a free and fair election. Also, the US government was thanked for its continuous support to the election process.



On the occasion, Ambassador Bodde appreciated the progress in the democratic exercise in Nepal. He apprised the chairman Khanal on the progress of US-aided partnership projects in Nepal.



According to a press statement issued by the international department of the CPN-UML, the US Ambassador was also appreciative of the immense work done by Election Commission for the preparation of the upcoming election.
