HAN demands security for tourists
KATHMANDU, Nov 24: The US Embassy in Nepal has issued a travel advisory requesting its citizens to be on alert during the provincial and parliamentary elections of Nepal slated for November 26 and December 7, citing increasing attacks using improvised explosive devises (IEDs).
The advisory asked American citizens to avoid polling locations, political party offices, candidate rallies, and other election-related events in the days before, during, and after the elections.
Tourism entrepreneurs have shown concern over the advisory, citing that it might have an adverse impact on tourism.
Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) issued a statement on Thursday referring to the US travel advisory on the eve of the first phase of provincial and parliamentary elections, urging the government to direct security agencies and concerned authorities to make sure that tourists do not face any problem during the elections.
