Update: 10 killed, 16 injured in Palpa jeep accident

TANSEN, Feb 14: A total of 10 individuals have lost their lives in a jeep accident in Palpa's Tinau Rural Municipality-6 while 16 others were injured.

A total of seven women and three men died when a jeep numbered Lu 1 Ja 2371, which was going to Chidish from Dumre, crashed near Eco Farmhouse in Masyam, Palpa at 4:50 PM on Tuesday.

According to DSP Sugandh Shrestha, Information Officer of District Police Office Palpa, the deceased are Yan Kumari Pant, 60, Urmila Aslami, 28, Ram Bahadur Aslami, 39 and Krishna Bahadur Aslami, 67 of Palpa's Tinau Rural Municipality-6.

Similarly, Geeta Sunar, 20, resident of Khursane, Tinau Rural Municipality 2, Palpa, Bishnukala Kami, 66, resident of Ribdikot Rural Municipality 1, Palpa, and Dil Kumari Sunar, 65, also died in the accident.

Similarly, DSP Shrestha said that Chandragopal Ranpal, 70 of Tamnagar, Rupandehi, Butwal sub-metropolitan city-14, Chuna Ranpal, 60 of Butwal-14 and Dilmaya GC, 29 of Devdaha municipality-5 of Rupandehi also died in the accident.

Police have arrested the jeep driver, Dan Bahadur Chidi, 45, a resident of Tansen Municipality-10 in Palpa.

According to police, the Mustang jeep went out of control and plunged about 300 meters off the dirt road.

After receiving information about the accident, teams were dispatched from and District Police Office Palpa. They rescued the injured and sent them to Lumbini Medical College for treatment.

Police said that the accident occurred due to excessive load and the accident occurred when the jeep lost control due to the load exceeding the capacity.
