KATHMANDU, Feb 23: Rastriya Prajatantra Party's (RPP) general convention concluded on Wednesday with the election of the party's executive body.
Kamal Thapa was elected as party chairman on Monday while 98 central committee members were elected on Wednesday.
The RPP's central committee has a total 163 members including 65 members nominated directly by the party chairman. Of the total 65, the chairperson nominated 15 individuals as central committee members on Wednesday. Deepak Bohora of Rupandehi, Nawaraj Subedi of Ramechhap, Hari Bahadur Basnet of Udayapur, Tanka Prasad Dhakal of Bhojpur, Ramkumar Subba of Sunsari, Dilnath Giri of Sankhunwasabha, Narendra Chaudhary of Sunsari, Ramchandra Rae of Sarlahi, Bhim Prasad Gauchan of Myagdi, Ramkrishna Bhattarai of Morang, Uddhab Paudel of Kathmandu, Chandra Bahadur Gurung of Kailali, Ram Thapa of Jhapa, Narendra Bahadur Chand of Baitadi and Gita Basnet of Bardiya are the new appointees to the central committee.
The central committee includes 27 office bearers including five vice chairpersons while there are 25 members in the party's Work Performance Committee.
As per the party statute the chairperson will appoint office bearers and recommend the members for party's Work Performance Committee to the central committee.
The vote counting of the party's central membership election concluded on Tuesday night. Famous Nepali actress Rekha Thapa, singer Komal Oli, Mira Rana, Kunti Shahi and Pratibha Rana were elected during the general convention. Budhiman Tamang, Bikram Pandey, Rajaram Shrestha, Sunil Thapa, Jayandra Chand, Dhabal Shumsher Rana, Bikram Thapa, Rajendra Lingden, Mohan Shrestha and Rajaram Gartaula were also elected to the central committee.
Singer Oli garnered 1,857 out of 3,300 votes while actress Thapa got 1,603 votes. Oli had fought the election under open male/female category while Thapa contested under open female category. Kunti Shahi obtained highest 1,848 votes under the open female category.
Of the total votes cast, Buddhman Tamang has secured the highest 1,928 votes while Bikram Pandey secured 1926 votes under open male and female category.
The six-day general convention had started on Friday.
This is the first general convention of the party after the unification between the then Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N) in November 2016.
The convention has passed the provision to support democratic Hindu kingdom as party's agenda.
