KATHMANDU, March 16: Family members of Nepali Congress (NC) leader Chakra Prasad Bastola, who is undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital, New Delhi, have decided to bring him to Kathmandu after two weeks.

Bastola, who is yet to gain consciousness, is being brought to Kathmandu as per the suggestions of doctors involved in his treatment. [break]“We are planning to bring him to Kathmandu by March end as per the suggestion of doctors,” said Mani Chaulagain, the eldest son-in-law of Bastola.

Chaulagain said though Bastola has not yet regained consciousness all vital organs are fully functioning. “Since doctors have said that he can be kept at local hospital, we are in talks with Norvic Hospital for necessary arrangements. We plan to keep him at Norvic Hospital for one and a half months before taking home,” Chaulagain further said.

Doctors, according to family members, have said all he needs now is good nursing care, good physician´s support, good physiotherapy and good family environment.

Doctors have said it is too early to comment whether he will be able to regain consciousness as some patient suffering from microscopic damage in deep parts of brain regain consciousness even after a year.

Bastola was first rushed to BP Koirala Institute of Health Science (BPKIHS) in Dharan after he suddenly collapsed while attending a function at Birat Chowk, Morang on December 29. He was later rushed to Siliguri, India, where he underwent first surgery at a hospital in Siliguri, India after he suddenly fell ill due to brain hemorrhage.

Though all vital organs are fully functioning and he is out of ventilator, Bastola still needs to be fed with pipes. Nevertheless, he can move his hands and legs, according to family sources.

A central member of NC, Bastola served as Minister for Foreign Affairs in the cabinet of the late Girija Prasad Koirala. He also served as Nepalese ambassador to India.

During the last general convention of NC, Bastola had taken initiative to form a third front that supported neither the faction led by President Sushil Koirala nor the one led by senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba.
