UML, UCPN (M) seeking common ground on thorny issues

KATHMANDU, June 4: The CPN-UML and the UCPN (Maoist) have agreed to forward the constitution drafting process after finalizing the issues of state restructuring.

In the meeting held at Singh Durbar, leaders of both the parties agreed to finalize the constitution drafting process very soon as the issue is the most disputed issue in the constitution drafting process.


The parties held discussions on multi-identity based six or eight provinces which would be finalized after holding discussions with the Nepali Congress, it is learnt.

Quoting the statement of UCPN (Maoist) chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal, his aide Chudamani Khadka informed that both parties had a single stance on forming the national consensus government and effectively conducting the reconstruction campaign for the quake victims after finalizing the constitution drafting process as they held only general discussions on the issues.

On the other hand, UML vice-chair Bhim Rawal informed that his party would propose five to six provinces modality in today's scheduled meeting of the four parties.

The parties are busy in meetings to narrow down the disputed issues of the constitution ahead of today's Constituent Assembly meeting. RSS
