UML to field its own candidate for President

KATHMANDU, Oct. 25: The standing committee (SC) meeting of the ruling CPN (UML) has decided to file party's candidacy for the post of the President.

The SC meeting concluded last night decided to contest for the post of the President based on consensus but the name of the candidate has not been finalised yet, party secretary Yogesh Bhattarai said.The UML has called the parliamentary party (PP) meeting at 11 am today to hold further discussions in the issue.

Likewise, the meeting has urged the Nepali Congress and all other political parties to move ahead together in the journey of national consensus. Earlier on Saturday, the Nepali Congress (NC) decided to file party's candidacy for the posts of the President and Vice-President.

The meeting chaired by party chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli discussed the need for national consensus for addressing the problems country facing, implementation of the new constitution, stability of democracy, promotion of national unity, social goodwill and maintaining geographical unity, among others.

Secretary Bhattarai said that decision has been made to draw attention of the government to adopt all possible measures to ease the supplies of the daily essential and bring the life to normalcy that has been affected from the undeclared blockade imposed by India in the southern borders. RSS
