KATHMANDU, May 2: CPN-UML has decided to field Bidya Sundar Shakya as the mayor candidate in Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
After a marathon standing committee meeting on Monday and a long discussion between top leaders on Tuesday, the party picked Shakya as mayor candidate.

Shakya is former ward chairman of the metropolitan city and he is secretary of the party's Kathmandu District Committee.
However, the UML has still not taken any decision about candidate for the position of deputy mayor in Kathmandu Metropolitan City. It is said that the party is developing election-alliance with Rastriya Prajatantra Party in the upcoming local elections in Kathmandu and Lalitpur Metropolitan City.
