KATHMANDU, March 4: Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Bidya Sundar Shakya has complained that the federal government is not interested in the protection and conservation of the historical and archeological heritage of Kathmandu. Mayor Shakya said that although the federal government has the responsibility to protect the heritage, it has not acted accordingly.
Laying the foundation stone of the reconstruction work of the courtyard of the Annapurna Temple at Bhotahiti in Kathmandu on Friday, he claimed that the KMC has moved ahead with the reconstruction work of all the properties even though the federal government did not provide assistance.

He reiterated that the work is being done in accordance with the policy of providing financial assistance for the reconstruction of the properties by the KMC by handing over the responsibility of its protection and management to the local guthis. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has provided Rs. 7.61 million for the reconstruction of the yard.
