A standing committee meeting of the party held in Kathmandu on Tuesday took the decision after Alam, who was seriously injured after being shot at by unidentified gunmen at Chainpur Chowk along the Pathlaiya-Birgunj road, died on Thursday. [break]
UML Spokesperson Pradip Gyawali said the party will field Nejama under the First Past the Post (FPTP) electoral system. “Election Commission may provide us time to file her candidacy,” he told Republica.
An active UML leader in Bara district, Nejama is the district committee member of UML-affiliated All Nepal Women´s Organization and regional committee member of UML in Bara constituency 4.
Deceased Alam was travelling to his hometown from Kathmandu a day after his party fielded his candidacy under FPTP electoral system. Alam was shot at by unidentified men on October 4. Critically injured Alam was airlifted through Nepal Army helicopter to Kathmandu for treatment. Doctors attending him at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital had declared him dead after his heart stopped functioning on Thursday afternoon.
