The meeting nominated former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal as coordinator of the taskforce and other leaders KP Sharma Oli, Bamdev Gautam and Ishwar Pokharel as members.[break]
UML took the decision at a time when the third-largest party in the 601-seat Constituent Assembly (CA) is in the midst of its three-month drive for strengthening intra-party unity.
"The meeting took the decision with a view to give further impetus to the ongoing intra-party unity and to bring about positive impact on national politics as well," UML Secretary Shankar Pokharel told Republica.
Leaders said they will talk to CPN-ML, CPN-ML (Socialist), CPN (Samyukta), CPN (Ekikrit) and Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, among others. These parties have altogether less than half-a-dozen members in the parliament.
Also the UML taskforce will talk to other small left parties that have no representation in parliament including the groups that split from the UCPN (Maoist) party.
"A large section of the cadres in the UCPN (Maoist) has been disillusioned with the wrong policies of the Maoist party. We aim to bring them to our party so that they wouldn´t choose a wrong course," said a leader.
