KATHMANDU, Sept 9: CPN-UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet has warned that protests will be launched if Prime Minister Balendra Shah does not resign after returning from the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Speaking at an event in Gundu on Wednesday, Basnet said restoring the previous House of Representatives, dissolved after the Gen Z movement, would become an agenda of the protest movement.
He said the issue would be a key agenda at the party’s meeting scheduled for September 22 and 23. “Some colleagues have asked about restoring the previous parliament. We will discuss it at this meeting,” he said.

Basnet claimed that parliament restoration had previously been accepted as a means of correcting political regression and that the UML had played a role in restoring parliament in the past.
He said restoring the previous parliament could again be a “revolutionary step” to correct what he described as political regression, adding that the issue currently under consideration by the Supreme Court would also be discussed.
Basnet also said Prime Minister Shah should resign after returning from the UN General Assembly.
Warning that the longer the Balendra Shah government remains in office, the greater the damage to the country, Basnet said there was growing public anger against the government.
“Resign to stop the people’s anger. Otherwise, a movement similar to that of Bhadra 23 and 24 will be announced again,” he said, adding that restoration of parliament and other issues would become agendas of the movement.
