According to the party´s CC member Jagannath Khatiwada, the CC decided to defer the meeting due to lack of preparations and the changed political context.[break]
“The leaders couldn´t prepare political report, organizational report and various other reports to be presented from the departments during the national conclave, as they regularly remained busy in inter-party talks and other negotiations. It was deferred mainly for the same reason,” Khatiwada told Republica.
This is the fourth time the meeting has been deferred. According to the party statute, the meeting of the council needs to be held at least once in 18 months but the UML hasn´t held the council meeting after the party´s eighth general convention held in Butwal some three years ago.
Around 700 party members participate in the meeting of the council, which according to the party statute is more powerful than the party´s central committee.
Only the party´s general convention can supercede the council´s decision. But in practice, the council is rarely convened.
The central committee meeting will resume Monday to discuss other agenda items.
