KATHMANDU, July 2: The meeting between the ruling CPN-UML and the main opposition UCPN (Maoist) on Thursday failed to make a breakthrough on the resumption of the parliament.

However, the leaders involved in the meeting said that the talks were very positive. “The talks were positive. We will again hold a meeting on Friday,” said Minister for Information and Communications Shankar Pokharel.

Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal had participated in the meeting.

The Maoists have been disrupting the parliamentary proceedings since May 4 protesting the "extra-constitutional move" by President Ram Baran Yadav reinstating the Chief of Army Staff Rookmangud Katawal, against the then Maoist-led government’s decision to sack him. The Maoist party has demanded that the government rectify the presidential move.
