KATHMANDU, July 26: Parliamentarians of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) have expressed serious objections against the government and the finance minister for not allocating sufficient money in the new budget to the constituencies represented by them.

The party meeting was discontinued on Sunday after most of the MPs present demanded that Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal himself address the issue in the next meeting since the issue was directly related to the government, said Bhim Acharya, chief whip of the ruling party.

Though Finance Minister Surendra Pandey reached the meeting venue, the lawmakers insisted that they wanted clarification from the prime minister for failing to allocate money for UML lawmakers´ constituencies. "The meeting has been put off till Monday morning as most of us agreed that there was no point in holding the meeting in prime minister´s absence," said lawmaker Prithivi Subba Gurung. Prime Minister Nepal could not attend the meeting as he was busy in parliamentary committee meetings.

The meeting of UML lawmakers was held to discuss the budget so that the party would be able to take a common stand before the deliberations in the parliament. Deliberation on the budget in the House was scheduled for Sunday afternoon. But the parliament meeting was put off for Monday due to Maoist obstructions. Lawmakers criticized the chief whip for failing to make proper time arrangement with the prime minister, said a member.
